How NanoRAD
works

NanoRAD is a transparent coating that is applied to surfaces that can last for months (even with regular cleaning).
NanoRAD continues to safely kill bacteria and viruses, eradicating most infectious pathogens by 2 hours, going far beyond normal disinfection.[1]

A Neoteric antibacterial ceria-silver nanozyme for abiotic surfaces

This study addresses the persistent challenge of bacterial infections in both community and hospital settings, emphasizing the limitations of current disinfection practices. The researchers introduce a novel ceria-silver nanozyme with potent surface catalytic activity, effectively eradicating common bacterial strains such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant S. aureus, in both planktonic and biofilm forms. They attribute the nanozyme’s efficacy to its electrostatic interaction with bacterial surfaces, leading to disruption of bacterial respiration, DNA damage, osmodysregulation, and eventual bacterial lysis. Mechanistic insights suggest a synergistic effect between ceria and silver, leading to the generation of harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS) like hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) crucial for antibacterial activity. A mini-pilot study in a pediatric dental clinic confirms the nanozyme’s long-lasting antibacterial efficacy on high-touch surfaces, offering a promising avenue for combating bacterial infections.

Broad-Spectrum, Potent, and Durable Ceria Nanoparticles Inactivate RNA Virus Infectivity by Targeting Virion Surfaces and Disrupting Virus–Receptor Interactions – MDPI 2023

This study explores powerful and durable antiviral solutions, with a focus on ceria nanoparticles (CNPs). These CNPs exhibit unique surface reactions (Ce3+ ↔ Ce4+) that generate ROS, acting as a natural defense mechanism. Researchers investigated the effectiveness of silver-modified CNPs, namely AgCNP1 and AgCNP2, against respiratory viruses like coronavirus OC43, parainfluenza virus type 5 (PIV5), and rhinovirus 14 (RV14). The study shows that a single application of AgCNP1 and 2 efficiently neutralized multiple virus challenges. This breakthrough suggests that AgCNP nanoparticles possess broad-spectrum and persistent antiviral capabilities by disrupting viral surface proteins’ interactions with cellular receptors.

Nanoscale Cerium Oxide Deactivates Human Coronavirus and Rhinovirus on Surfaces – ACS Publication 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has made people more aware of the danger of new viruses and the need for effective treatments. This study looks at two types of materials using silver and cerium oxide that can fight viruses like the OC43 coronavirus and RV14 rhinovirus. The materials’ stability is demonstrated by the chemically secure nature of silver nanophases on ceria particles, with notable differences in the Ce3+/Ce4+ redox state ratio (25.8% for AgCNP1 and 53.7% for AgCNP2). Further insight is gained through electrochemical studies, revealing formulation-specific viral inactivation and potential action mechanisms. These materials are stable and effective in deactivating viruses, making them useful for combating various viral infections.
